There’s disappointing news for fans of T-Mobile’s Vario range of smartphones, the rebadged HTC handsets of TyTn fame and recently in Touch Pro flavour. The UK operater has cancelled the release of the MDA Vario V, even though the MDA Compact V (the keyboardless HTC Touch Diamond2 redesign) sibling of similar design was launched earlier in June, for reasons which are currently unknown. There is however no news of the device being cancelled in other T-Mobile markets, so hopefully this isn’t due to a functionality issue with the much anticipated device.

News is that the T-Mobile Google powered Android device launch will take place September 23rd 2008, location yet to be determined. Both Google and T-Mobile executives will be on hand to discuss the revelations. I’m eagerly awaiting this one and I’ve got my ear to the ground for more as it happens! Hopefully the title ‘G1′ will get official on us.

Mobile operators are usually pretty hot on the heels of Windows Mobile releases with their’ branded versions which are very popular in the highly subsidised European market. While the HTC Diamond quickly found it’s way onto shelves and e-baskets the Touch Pro has been somewhat absent.
The Pro, on general release SIM free for some time now is only available with Vodafone UK. The Vodafone UK Business on-line shop always seems very prompt in such matters. T-Mobile’s variant, the hotly anticipated MDA Vario IV has now apparantly been delayed in Europe due to quality issues until no earlier than December 1st. That’s cutting it a bit fine for the holiday season and stock issues are likely to be a nightmare. So does this mean that T-Mobile, known for thoroughly testing handsets have been put off by similar gripes to those you’ll hear about netside, or has Vodafone rushed this baby out the door with a handful of issues?
